Birds!
We enjoyed learning about the special features that birds have and how they live. Birds have many different habitats and their are many different types of birds. We created and designed out own bird nests and we were also able to make a scientific drawing and write in our science journals about what we notice.

Bird Migration!
This morning we had another
wonderful 4 Winds workshop about how birds migrate! This was so
exciting. We played a couple of games about bird migration. The games helped us experience the barriers in our environment that the birds have to navigate through. Birds fly in a flock and always fly together in a formation when they migrate.

Woodland Deer
Our wonderful, dedicated and enthusiastic 4 Winds parents shared a new topic with us last week. We learned about a four legged animal that is a herbivore and eats early in the morning, a deer! We were able to examine deer artifacts and make connections between a deer's physical adaptations and its role in the ecosystem. We learned that a deer needs to eat 2 1/2 pounds of twigs each day to survive through the winter! We were able to weigh some twigs to give us an idea about what that looks like.
Squirrels!
We had a wonderful program on Thursday about the life of a squirrel. The children were able to participate in many hands on opportunities that gave them a closer look at how this busy this animal adapts to the different seasons of the year.
We even have some wonderful photographs of a new baby squirrel that one of our scientists noticed in their backyard.
Thanks so very much to our 4 Winds volunteers who make this program possible for us!
Rotten Logs!
Fungus! |
This afternoon we learned about the creatures that live inside a log! The children learned what a decomposer is and why they are important. The videos will give you an idea about all of the activities we experienced and the learning that took place. Thanks so much to our 4 Winds Parents!
Life In The Dirt!
The children had a great opportunity to learn about what creatures live in the dirt. The worm is really amazing and adapts to it's habitat well. The children were able to examine live worms and make observations as well as visit the worms in their natural habitat.
Squirrels!
Leaf Eaters!
Today we had our first 4 Winds program. It was wonderful! The children learned about the different patterns of leaf-feeding. We enjoyed a puppet show about the flow of energy through food chains in an ecosystem. Later we went outside and searched for leaves with signs of different leaf-eating and shelter building insects or spiders.
